Sylvia Virginia Hicks

April 14, 1947 — March 13, 2012

Sylvia Virginia (Wise) Hicks, 64, of Shelbyville passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Community East Hospital in Indianapolis. Born April 14, 1947, in Washington County, Virginia, she was the daughter of Henry and Nora (Grace) Wise. She married Johnny N. Hicks on November 4, 1963, and he survives. Other survivors include her sons, John Hicks, Jr. of Indianapolis and David W. (wife, Irma) Hicks of Shelbyville; daughter, Trena Johnson of Greenfield; sister, Revonda Burton of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Andrew Hicks, Jeremiah Hicks, Caleb Johnson, Natalie Johnson and Emily Hicks; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister and two brothers. Mrs. Hicks was a loving mother, grandmother and wife. She enjoyed sewing, working crossword puzzles, teaching her grandchildren card games and bass fishing with her husband. Mrs. Hicks was a member of North Madison Baptist Church in Camby. She graduated from Warren Central High School. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 am, Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 10 am, Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Bryan Justice officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004.
