Ted H. Walton

Ted H. Walton, 84, a lifelong Shelby County resident, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Major Hospital in Shelbyville. He was born September 21, 1930, in Shelbyville, the son of Carl H. and Jessie (Phares) Walton. Ted is survived by several cousins including Robert R. Walton and wife, Sally S., of Shelbyville; many neighbors and friends including Jim and Sherry Brunner of Shelbyville; and his beloved dog, Amy Jane III. He was preceded in death by his parents. Ted graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1949, and attended Butler and Indiana Universities. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1951 to 1955, during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant and was stationed in Japan in the weather division. Ted worked for the Shelby County Health Department during the 1960’s and 1970’s. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, American Legion Post No. 70, Humane Society of the United States, and American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. He was lifetime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks-Shelbyville, and a former member of the Eagles Lodge and board of directors for the Home of Hope for Homeless Animals. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at noon, Tuesday at the funeral home, with Rev. Robert Campbell officiating. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville. Memorial contributions may be made to Home of Hope for Homeless Animals, c/o Dr. William Doig, P.O. Box 146, Waldron, Indiana 46182.
