Thelma M. Adkins, 83, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, March 25, 2011 at Ashford Place Health Campus in Shelbyville.
Born May 5, 1927 in Meade Co., Kentucky, she was the daughter of Wayne Hollis and Pearl Mae (Frans) Crecelius. She married Lee Adkins on August 3, 1946, and he preceded her in death on May 24, 2008.
Survivors include her sons; Wayne E. (wife, Anita) Adkins of Carmel, James S. (wife, Julie) Adkins of Fairland and R. Dale (wife, Runea) Adkins of Indianapolis; daughters, Wanda E. (husband, Roger) Wheeler of Indianapolis, Sandra L. Murphy of Connersville, Jane A. (husband, Richard) York and Roxy D. (husband, Tony) Eldridge, both of Shelbyville; sister, Iona (husband, Hewitt) Mosier of Georgetown; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Adkins had been employed at Western Electric, retiring in 1982.
She was a member of Telephone Pioneers of American at Western Electric and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Mrs. Adkins had attended London Methodist Church.
She was a mother, housewife and full-time grandmother. She loved music, including old hymns and bluegrass, and also enjoyed flowers and crocheting.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm, Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. and from 9:30 t0 10 am, Monday, March 28, 2011 at First Church of the Nazarene, 2315 S. Riley Highway in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 10 am, Monday at the church, with Rev. Dr. Steven Bohall officiating.
Interment will be in Fairland Cemetery.
