Thomas Allen “Tom” Woods, 72, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, May 22, 2015 at his residence.
He was born August 15, 1942, in Shelbyville, the son of Marvin and Margaret (Hirschauer) Woods. On August 1, 1964, he married his wife of 50 years, Teresa A. Stucker, and she survives.
Tom is also survived by his son, Steve Woods, and fiancé, Jodi Adkins, of Bloomington; daughters, Christy Woods of Indianapolis, and Sheri Nolting and husband, Greg, of Columbus; brother, Oliver McElroy and wife, Julie, of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Brock Nolting and Emma Nolting; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Timothy J. Woods; and a sister, Frances Ponder.
Tom graduated from Southwestern High School in 1960.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving on the U.S.S. Hank. He attended the U.S.S. Hank reunion annually.
Tom was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, American Legion Post No. 70, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Tin Can Sailors.
He retired from the United Parcel Service, with 25 years of service. After retirement, he became a delivery driver for Medworks, delivering medicines for the last 16 years.
Tom enjoyed fishing, traveling and listening to Blue Grass music.
He also leaves behind his dogs, Maggie, Daisy, Lilly and Sis.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, the rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St. in Shelbyville, with Father Aaron Pfaff officiating.
Interment will be at Miller Cemetery in Shelby County. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the local military committee.
