Thomas Elwood “Tom” Pogue, 68, of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Major Hospital
He was born March 1, 1945, in Shelby County. Tom was the son of Curtis Garfield and Georgianna (Cox) Pogue. He married Betty Redd on June 5, 1963, and she survives.
Other survivors include his sons, Thomas (wife, Audrey) Pogue of St. Paul and Anthony (wife, Kris) Pogue of Shelbyville; daughter, Carla Helfer of Shelbyville; brothers, Jim Pogue, Michael (wife, Ellen) Pogue and Jerry Pogue, all of Shelbyville; sisters, Gladys Bosse and Anna (husband, Dale) Lisby, both of Shelbyville and Kathleen (husband, Ralph) Ray of Connersville; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Wayne Pogue and David Pogue; and a sister, Teresa Lisby.
Tom lived most of his life in Shelby County. He obtained an associate degree in mechanics from Ivy Tech in Indianapolis.
He retired in 2005, as a journeyman mechanic for Knauf Insulation, after 37 years of service.
Tom was a member of GMP Local #32.
He enjoyed archery, winning the state championship for his division, fishing and hunting.
Tom also leaves behind his dog, Satin.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2013 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Services will be at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Jim Pogue officiating.
