Tonia Renee Abel, 48, of Jacksonville, Florida, a former Shelbyville resident, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 16, 2011 at her residence.
Born October 30, 1963 at England Air Force Base in Rapides Parish, Louisiana, she was the daughter of Maynard L. Abel and Sharon McDaniel.
Survivors include her mother and step-father, Alan W. McDaniel of Waldron; daughters, Nicole Kunard of Gaithersburg, Maryland, Brittney Dumas, Ashley Dumas and Sharon Ann Hanley, all of Indianapolis; brothers, Michael Abel, Brian Abel and Adam Elliott, all of Shelbyville; sister, Terri Bodine of Shelbyville; maternal grandmother, Edna Mae Yeley of Shelbyville; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father; maternal grandfather, Fred McDaniel; paternal grandparents, Henry and Betty Abel; and one paternal uncle.
Tonia was a former Shelbyville resident and had been living in Jacksonville for about 10 years.
She was an avid reader.
Tonia worked as a caregiver with assisted living.
She attended Burlington College in Burlington, New Jersey studying social services.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm, Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, 819 S. Harrison St., followed by a funeral services at 7 pm at the funeral home, with Pastor Robb Barlow officiating.
