Tony Glen Newton, 60, of Waldron, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2012 at University Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born October 10, 1952, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Robert Glen and Lois Pauline (Cole) Newton. He married Anita Ryhal on February 21, 1981, and she survives.
Other survivors include his parents of Waldron; sons, A.J. (significant other, Maraysa) Newton and Craig A. Newton, both of Shelbyville; sisters, Debbie (husband, Kevin) Williams and Diane (husband, Dennis) Hartman, both of Waldron; and several nieces and nephews.
Tony was a lifelong Shelby County resident and member of Waldron United Methodist Church.
He graduated from Waldron High School in 1970.
Tony worked for 17 years at Meishberger Stone Quarry as a heavy equipment operator, was the owner and operator of Newton Excavating and most recently worked for Mathies Landscaping.
He enjoyed bowling, camping, fishing, skiing and corn hole. He was an avid rummy player and watched NASCAR and Colts Football.
Tony had served as a Shelby County Commissioner since January 1, 2005, and was currently the board's president. He also served on the Shelby County Drainage Board, Planning Commission, Animal Shelter Commission, Community Corrections Board member, Hospital Appointment Board, Factoring Committee, Emergency Ambulance Board, Solid Waste Management Board, Emergency Management Board and Shelby County Development Corporation.
He was a social member of the Shelbyville Knights of Columbus and a past member of the Morristown Masonic Lodge.
Tony also leaves his dog, Robbie.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, October 28, 2012 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, October 29, 2012 at the funeral home, with Pastor Robb Barlow officiating.
Interment will be in VanPelt Cemetery in Shelby County.
