V. Eileen Smith

V. Eileen Smith, 87, of Shelbyville died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, at Major Hospital. Born May 22, 1919, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Oris and Margaret (Williams) Moberly. She married Clayton J. "Smitty" Smith on Dec. 24, 1938, and he preceded her in death on March 28, 2005. Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Jean (husband, Donald) Richards Sr. of Shelbyville; son, Larry Clayton (wife, Maude) Smith Sr. of Boggstown; grandchildren, Claytanna Pirtle, Larry Clayton (wife, Colleen) Smith Jr., Jeffrey Lee (wife, Marge) Smith, Donald Gene (wife, Kelly) Richards Jr. and Crystal Dawn (husband, Brad) Robinson; and 22 great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Wayne Mardith Moberly and John Norman Moberly. Mrs. Smith lived most of her life in Shelbyville and in Indianapolis from the late 1950s to mid 1970s. She and her husband owned Smitty's Furniture Store in Fountain Square while they lived in Indianapolis. Mrs. Smith graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1937. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Broadway Chapel, 232 W. Broadway St. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gary W. Huffman officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Indiana, 115 W. Washington St., Suite 1180-S, Indianapolis, IN 46204.
