Valerik Edward “Ed” Alfimow, 58, of Shelbyville, passed away, Monday, January 20, 2014 at Major Hospital.
He was born May 16, 1955, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Walter Valerik and Nadja (Began) Alfimow. He married Mary Pikulinski on July 14, 1983, and she survives.
Other survivors include his daughters, Sara Moseley and husband, Dean, of Indianapolis and Rachel Hudson-Spurlin and husband, Matt, of Hopkinsville, Kentucky; sons, Walter Alfimow of Shelbyville and Nikolai Alfimow and wife, Adrienne, of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Dylan Moseley, Ian Moseley, Gannon Moseley, Emalee Hudson, Ethan Spurlin, Luke Spurlin, Lydia Spurlin, Valerik “Aiden” Alfimow and Niko Alfimow; sister-in-law, Maryann Alfimow of Philadelphia; and a nephew, Ihor Alfimow.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Igor Alfimow; nephew, Michael Alfimow and a niece, Heather Alfimow.
Ed graduated in 1973 from George Washington High School in Philadelphia. He received a degree in mechanical engineering and later obtained his Master’s degree in business from Penn State and Indiana Wesleyan.
He retired from Knauf Insulation in 2008, after 25 years of service.
Ed enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and camping. He enjoyed watching baseball and football, especially the Philadelphia Eagles.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Ed also leaves behind his dogs, Isabella and Shirley.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2014 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
