Velta M. Harrell, 82, of Shelbyville, died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at Ashford Place Health Campus.
Born Nov. 25, 1923, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of the late George F. and Vera (Thorp) Young. She married Paul Richard "Doc" Harrell on May 15, 1942, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 1990.
Survivors include one niece, Carolyn Hazelbaker of Shelbyville; three great-nieces, Alisa Fisher, Katrina Vierling and Roberta (husband, Todd) McLane; one great-nephew, Brian Kemple; three great-great-nephews, Jakin Vierling, Austin Kemple and Braden McLane; and two great-great-nieces, Shaunda Suits and Dustarona Vierling.
She also was preceded in death by one sister, Edythe Louise Comstock; one brother, Paul Young; and one great-great-niece, Amber Dawn Suits.
Mrs. Harrell spent her winters in Winter Garden, Fla.
She retired from the former Shelby National Bank after more than 40 years of service.

She graduated from Flat Rock High School.
Mrs. Harrell was a member of First Christian Church, which she had attended for 75 years, never missing a Sunday, and where she was a member of Esther Disciple Women?s Group and the Stone Cross Bible Study Group. She also was a member of Naamah chapter of Eastern Star, receiving her 50-year pin.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Freeman Family Funeral Home, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Evans and Capt. Marlene Edwards officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
