Vern Frank Riser, Jr., 89, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Morristown Manor in Morristown.
He was born January 8, 1925, in Shelbyville, the son of Vern Frank Sr. and Evelyn (Steging) Riser. On September 17, 1949, he married his wife of 64 years, Beulah Geer, and she survives. Vern loved Beulah, and proudly told people of his love for her.
Other survivors include his sisters, Ruth Newcomb of Van Nuys, California, Carol Osborne of Beech Grove, Evelyn Swails and Jacqueline Bruner, both of Shelbyville; brother, Donald Ray Riser of Greenwood; and nephews, Tim Tucker and wife, Karen of Indianapolis, Dennis Tucker of Boggstown and David Tucker and wife, Linda of Akron, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Charlotte Mae Pflum.
Vern graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1943 and attended Indiana Central University, majoring in biology.
He was a veteran of the US Marines, he was a sergeant for bombing squadron, six-twelve, as a radio-gunner, aviation, serving during World War II.
Vern worked as a cabinet maker, with his father; and then was a chemist at Indiana University Medical Center.
He loved God and spoke often to others about God.
Vern enjoyed woodworking.
Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Rev. Harvey Weaver officiating.
Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
