Viola Ruth Fewell, 92, a lifelong Shelbyville resident, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Heritage House Convalescent Center in Shelbyville.
She was born July 10, 1922, in Shelbyville, the daughter of Eddie Everett and Emma Z. (McKay) Walton. On August 12, 1939, she married her husband of 65 years, Charles R. Fewell, Sr., and he preceded her in death on April 12, 2003.
Viola is survived by her daughters, Bev (Fewell) Pettis and husband, Gregory “Buck” and Debbie (Fewell) Harter and husband, Gary, both of Shelbyville; son, Charles R. “Chuck” Fewell, Jr. and wife, Kristin, of Greenfield; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Carl “Bud” Walton, Delmar Walton and Stanley Earl Walton; sisters, Arvilla Williams and Letha Hall; and grandsons, Tony Collins, Todd Collins and Kory Chappelow.
Viola was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and The Salvation Army.
She formerly worked at Woolworth in Shelbyville and later was the office manager at the Marion County Home.
Viola enjoyed fishing, camping and was a wonderful cook.
She loved spending time with her family and friends.
Visitation will be from 11 am to 1 pm, Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 1 pm, Tuesday at the funeral home, with Rev. Frank Smith officiating.
Interment will be at Wray Cemetery in Shelby County.
