Virginia Frances Carwein, 80, of Shelbyville passed away Friday, July 20, 2007 at Major Hospital. Born March 17, 1927, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Frank W. and Jessie (Connor) Fuchs. She married Russell Palmer on November 27, 1947, and he preceded her in death on December 16, 1964. She married Frank Carwein on May 8, 1971, and he preceded her in death on May 16, 1986. Survivors include her daughters, Deborah (husband, James) Sanders of Indianapolis, Terrie (husband, David) Miller of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Barbara (husband, William F.) Strotman of Fairland; stepdaughter Vicky Carwein of Richland, Washington; and three grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Raymond Fuchs. Mrs. Carwein had been employed at Shelby Manufacturing Co. (L&J) from 1947 to 1963, where she was a sewing machine operator and later a supervisor. She was a member of the 49'ers Homemaker Club and Blue Ridge Christian Union Church and former member of Cynthian-Anna's Homemaker Club. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Broadway Chapel, 232 W. Broadway Street. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery in Blue Ridge. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, in care of Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Chapels, 819 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
