Virginia G. Pherigo, 101, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Ashford Place Health Campus in Shelbyville.
She was born March 29, 1914, in Shelby County, the daughter of the late Martin and Louise (Adam) Hey. She married Robert Edgar Pherigo, on February 26, 1939, and he preceded her in death on November 12, 1995.
Virginia is survived by her son, James Pherigo and wife, Pamela, of Shelbyville; daughter, Sandra Piercy and husband, Gaylon, of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Angela Pherigo of Morristown, and Robert Piercy and wife, Angie, and Derick Piercy, both of Shelbyville; great-grandchildren, Nicholas White, Christopher R. Piercy, Christopher D. Piercy, Hunter Piercy and Elijah Piercy; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by; brother, Gilbert Hey; and sisters, Frances Hey Linsmith and Catherine Hey Keppel.
Virginia was a lifelong Shelby County resident.
She graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1932.
Virginia was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Women’s Guild and Triple L. She was also a member of the Monday Night Blue Chasers Euchre Club.
She was formerly a beautician and worked in the Shelbyville High School cafeteria.
Virginia enjoyed sewing, quilting and working outdoors.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Evangelical United Church of Christ, 2630 S. Miller St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church, with Rev. Alecia Gross officiating.
Interment will be at Miller Cemetery in Shelby County.
Services entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
