Vitula "Tootsie" (Shinolt) Mitchell, 102, of Ray's Crossing passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Morristown Manor in Morristown.
Born August 8, 1908, in Rays Crossing, she was the daughter of Moses William "Jack" and Ursie (Neeb) Shinolt. She married Joseph Mitchell in October of 1946, and he preceded her in death on February 22, 1964.
Survivors include her lifelong friend, Mildred Kendall of Rays Crossing; cousin, Betty Miller of Columbus; nephews, Tony Gahimer, Tim Gahimer and Dick Gahimer; and niece, Joette Sullivan.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Freda Faye Shinolt.
Mrs. Mitchell was a resident of Rays Crossing most of her life and graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1927.
She formerly co-owned and operated Blue River Abstract from 1955 to 1970, was a legal secretary for Robert Marshall Law Office for 20 years and a court reporter for Court room 1. She was a member of Business and Professional Women, legal Secretaries and a charter member of Psi Iota Xi sorority.
Mrs. Mitchell had been a member of Rays Crossing Christian Union Church since 1919, where she also was a member of Christian Union Women's Fellowship and a Sunday school teacher for many years.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Friday, March 18, 2011 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St.; and from 10 to 11 am Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Rays Crossing Christian Union Church, 2115 North 600 East, Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 11 am Saturday at the church, with the Pastor Gordon Heinrich officiating.
Interment will be in Bennett Cemetery in Shelby County.
