Walter Lee "Strawberry" Blunk, 82, of Shelbyville passed away Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus.
He was born February 24, 1934, in Birdseye, the son of Edward D. and Ethel (Ridenour) Blunk. On April 10, 1956, he married his wife of 59 years, Carol Kellems, and she survives.
Walter is also survived by his daughter, Joy Miller and husband, Max, of Bloomfield; sons, Buster Blunk and wife, Carrie, of Shelbyville, and Keith Blunk and wife, Bev, of Birdseye; sister, Charlotte Wright of Birdseye; brother, Allen Blunk and wife, Pat, of Middleburg, Florida; grandchildren, Brady Miller and wife, Melodie, of Bloomfield, Kurt Blunk and wife, Amanda, of Jasper, Sara Breining and husband, Mike, of Noblesville, and Stefani Smith of Shelbyville; great-grandchildren, Emily Miller and Finley Blunk; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant sister.
Walter graduated from Birdseye High School in 1951.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict.
Walter was a heavy equipment operator for N-G Gilbert, retiring in 1994, with 47 years of service.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 70 and Poor Boys Car Club.
Walter enjoyed woodworking and classic cars.
He also leaves behind his dog, Toby.
Private family services will be observed.
Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
