William Allen Reed, 71, of Morristown died Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
Born April 3, 1939, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Morris E. and Seneretta M. (Evans) Reed.
Survivors include his daughters, Elizabeth Reed (husband, Doug) Bushong of Johnson City, Tenn., Teresa (husband, Jim) Lawless and Carolyn B Reed, both of Morristown, Marilyn A Reed and Annette M. (husband, Robert J.) Fisher, both of Indianapolis, and Barbara (husband, Jay) Lanman of Cicero; brother, Stephen Rex (wife, Diana) Reed of Geneva, N.Y.; grandchildren, Andrew Abrams, Anthony Abrams, William David Reed, Travis James Smith, Stephanie Lanman, Vanessa Lanman, Christopher Lanman, Jeffery Foreman, Michael Foreman, Alexander Fisher; seven great-grandchildren; and Patricia Lou Reed Morgan, the mother of his children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Morris Reed and granddaughter, Crystal Gerding.
Mr. Reed was a lifelong resident of Shelby County.
His employment included delivering The Shelbyville News; projectionist at Shelbyville Cinema Theater; Bridgeport Brass. He had been a science and biology teacher at Creston Middle School and Warren Central High School in Metropolitan School District Warren Township, retiring in 2006, after 42 years of service; and coached for a total of 40 years, including football, golf, track, wrestling, field and cross country.
He also co-authored the book ?Science and Nature? education series.
Mr. Reed graduated from Morristown High School in 1957, Purdue University in 1962 and Ball State University in 1969, with a doctorate of science degree.
He was a member of Morristown United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher; Shelby County Republican Party; National Education Association; National Education Association Retired; and Morristown Masonic Lodge No. 193; past president of Warren Education Association, Indiana State Teachers Association, and Local Teacher Union.
Mr. Reed loved spending time with family and enrolling his children in the twins study at Indiana University Medical Center. His hobbies included license plate collector, photography, boating, camping, fishing, gardening, racing, all sports, golf, raising rabbits, motorcycles.
He was an organ donor.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Asbury Cemetery in Morristown.
