William C. McClain, 88, of Edinburgh, died Sunday, April 02, 2006, at Manorcare South, Greenwood. Born June 11, 1917, in Shelby County, he was the son of the late Lora Lawrence and Katie (Patterson) McClain. Survivors include two sisters, Emma Whitaker of Indianapolis and Frances Brehob of Lenoir, N.C.; three nieces, Janet Marsh, Nancy Ronzello and Katie Stratus; and two nephews, David Clark and Keith Clark. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Clark Fisher; one half brother, Dale McClain; and one nephew, Thomas McClain. Mr. McClain was a lifelong Shelby County resident. He had been a farmer and retired in 1982 as a schoolteacher from Triton Elementary School. He also had taught at Hendricks Township, Bengal and Cooper schools, Mr. McClain graduated from Mount Auburn High School and from Indiana Central College with a bachelor?s degree and a teaching license. He was a fireman with Marietta Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. McClain was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving as an aircraft mechanic in North Africa during World War II. He was a member of Marietta United Methodist Church, Indiana Teachers Association, Red Man?s Lodge and Shelby County Farm Bureau. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Andy Payton and Robert Campbell officiating. Interment will be in Miller Cemetery, Shelby County.
