William Carl "Bill" Bruns, 77, of Shelbyville passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Kindred Hospital in Greenwood.
Born October 28, 1932, in Lawrenceville, he was the son of William John and Helen Marie (Reis) Bruns. He married Mary Lou Meyer on September 21, 1980, and she survives.
Other survivors include his sons, Ronald E. (wife, Phyllis) Scott of Farmersburg, Kenneth D. Scott of Shelbyville and Edward J. "Jack" Whalen of Auxvasse, Missouri; daughters, Melissa Susan Whalen of Columbia, Missouri, and Deborah (husband, Raymond L.) Perry of Jasper, Georgia; sisters, Florence Hicks of Brookville and Mary H. Sturgen of Osgood; brother, Robert (wife, Carol) Bruns of Louisville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Alisa D. (husband, Dewey) Walters and Jonathan E. (wife, Amber) Scott, both of Farmersburg, Angela B. Scott of Fort Wayne; great-grandchildren, Jade E. Walters, Keegan M. Scott and Kiersten M. Scott, all of Farmersburg; many nieces and nephews; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Barbara Jane DiNinno.
Mr. Bruns was an over the road driver with Yellow Freight System, retiring in 1995.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War as an artillery fire direction specialist.
Mr. Bruns graduated from Milan High School in 1951.
He was an avid collector of farm toys, trucks and NASCAR. He enjoyed watching the Pacers, Colts and NASCAR.
Mr. Bruns was a member of Shelby County Historical Society and had served on the Board of Directors of Grover Museum.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Jeff Owens officiating. A luncheon will follow at Grover Museum for friends and family.
