William Daniel “Bill” Alvis, 63, of North Vernon, formerly of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus.
He was born August 21, 1950 in Bartholomew County, the son of Warren Lee “Ted” and Emily Sue (Hey) Alvis. He married Barbara Perry on June 22, 1974, and she survives.
Other survivors include his mother of Shelbyville; sons, Tony Alvis and wife, Julie of Shelbyville and Kevin M. Alvis and wife, Amy of Indianapolis; daughter, Brandi Smith and husband, Jason of Shelbyville; brothers, Warren “Scott” Alvis of Shelbyville and Kevin Leon Alvis of Indianapolis; sister, Carolyn Jo Oakley and husband, Harold “Butch” of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Damon Alvis, Dylan Alvis, Conner Hasecuster and Nolan Hasecuster; and step-grandchildren, Braydon Smith and Brooklyn Smith.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Bill graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1969, and attended Lincoln Tech.
He attended Fenns Community Church and was very active, leading Praise and Worship and Royal Rangers. He also sang solos at church.
Bill retired as a fork lift operator in 2006, he worked at IPC for five years, Knauf for 18 ½ years and Great States for three years.
He loved to fish and watch sports on television, especially the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana University basketball. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and going for rides.
Bill also leaves behind his dog, Sophia.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2014 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the funeral home, with Rev. Bill Horner officiating.
Interment will be at Miller Cemetery in Shelby County.
