William Dean Kinsley

William Dean Kinsley, 81, of Indianapolis, formerly of Shelbyville, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Indiana University West Hospital in Avon, surrounded by his devoted wife and loving children. He was born April 25, 1935, in Shelby County, the son of Howard Owen and Olive Ruth (Gates) Kinsley. On November 23, 1960, he married his wife of 55 years, Bette Ann Boman, and she survives. William is also survived by his daughters, Cheryl “Sherri” Spritzer and husband, Ron, of Silver Spring, Maryland, and Cynthia “Cindy” Zimmerman and husband, Paul, of Palatine, Illinois; son, James “Jim” Kinsley and wife, Jennifer, of Shelbyville; and grandchildren, Tyler Kinsley, Cassidy Kinsley, Kathleen Spritzer, Rebecca Spritzer, Abigail Zimmerman and Daniel Zimmerman. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Calvin Kinsley. William graduated from Fairland High School in 1953 and attended University of Illinois on a Naval ROTC scholarship, then obtained his master’s degree from Indiana University. He was a member of West Pines Baptist Church in Avon, where he formerly served as Sunday school teacher and treasurer. William was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam Era, on the USS Maddox and USS Marsh. He taught high school mathematics at Crispus Attucks, Lawrence Central High School and Ben Davis High School, retiring in 1982. William was also a member of the National Rifle Association, Indiana State Teachers Association, American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed reading, guns, genealogy and hunting. A gathering of friends will be from 11 am to 1 pm, Saturday, August 6, 2016 at West Pines Baptist Church, 8868 East County Road 100 North in Avon. A celebration of life will be at 1 pm, Saturday at the church, with Pastor John Neuhart officiating. Inurnment will be at Indiana Veteran Memorial Cemetery, 1415 MSH N. Lane, Madison, IN 47250. Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Pine Baptist Church.
