Wilma Janice Rutherford, 90, of Shelbyville passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Heritage House Convalescent Center.
Born May 24, 1918, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Roy and Della (Craig) Stubbs. She married Willis S. Smith, and he preceded her in death on June 24, 1973. She married Marion F. Rutherford on June 2, 1979, and he preceded her in death on May 3, 2007.
Survivors include her son, R. Craig (wife, Delores) Smith of Texas; stepsons, Ray (wife, Bonnie) Rutherford of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Marion F. (wife, Joyce) Rutherford of Lebanon, Tennessee; stepdaughters, Diana (husband, Martin) Tanner of Shelbyvilel, Carolyn (husband, Mike) Talbert of Wetumpka, Alabama, and Kathlene Aldridge of Danville; one grandson; one granddaughter, two great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; 13 stepgrandchildren and 19 great-stepgranchildren; and nephew, John(wife, Merrilyn) Bass of Greenwood.
She also was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Viola Bass.
Mrs. Rutherford retired in 1980 from Compton's Dairy Barn. She previously was employed with the Shelbyville School System for 15 years.
Mrs. Rutherford graduated from Waldron High School in 1936.
she was a member of West Street United Methodist Church, Old Union United Methodist Church where she was a past president of United Methodist Women, and American Legion Auxiliary.
She loved flowers; bird watching, especially hummingbirds; and hot-air balloons.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
