Wilma Jean Coers

March 29, 1921 — June 9, 2013

Wilma Jean Coers, 92, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2013 at Ashford Place Health Campus. She was born March 29, 1921, in Shelby County, to Floyd Wallace and Bessie Iona (Gray) Fields. On September 8, 1940, she married her husband of 68 years, Arthur George Coers, and he preceded her in death on November 23, 2008. Survivors include her four daughters, Donna (husband, Owen) Moudy of Covington, Cheryl (husband, Arthur) DePrez and Janet (husband, Michael) Wallace, both of Shelbyville and Carol (husband, Paul) Huttlin of Powell, Ohio; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; “sisters”-in-law, Faye Fields of West Lafayette and Judy Coers of Shelbyville; several nieces and nephews; and her Ashford Place “family”. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Fields; and one grandson, Matthew J. Huttlin. Wilma graduated from Waldron High School in 1939. She was a farm wife in Sugar Creek Township. Mrs. Coers was member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and an associate member of First Baptist Church in Fort Myers, Florida, she was very active in both churches and enjoyed Bible studies and old hymns. She was also a member of Sugar Creek Lodge Order of Eastern Star and a former charter member of Shelby County Country Club. Mrs. Coers was an avid reader, scrapbooker and recorded the family history in daily journals; she also enjoyed gardening. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, with Eastern Star rites at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2013 at the funeral home, with the Revs. Tim Lueking and Ron Robinson officiating. Interment will be in Second Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to Matthew J. Huttlin Scholarship Fund, in care of Recreation Unlimited, 7700 Piper Road, Ashley, Ohio 43003; Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 10401 N.
